Counseling Project
Location of the project:
The project will be implemented North and East provinces. The East province has 03 districts. They are Trincomalee, Baticaloa and Ampara. The North province has 05 districts. They are Jaffna, Mannar, Mullaithivu, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya. All districts of the North and Eastern provinces will be included in this project.
Background of the Project:
Everyone knows the nature of the war. It affects the all kind of the people like adult, children, women and elders. Last three decades Sri Lanka was faced severe war. Particularly North and East part of Sri Lanka directly most affected by the civil war. The people of the North and East provinces experienced several displacements and lost their home, properties belongings and under gone severe difficulties. As the result of the frequent displacement and continued conflict for around 30 years, social structures, common and livelihood infrastructure of this division had been destroyed.The livelihood of the peoplehave tremendously affected by the conflict and several displacement.
The results of the war and displacement people from the North and East provinces have been living under the poverty and vulnerable condition. The following factors influence and retain the vulnerable condition such as in adequate food security, lack of capital to reactivate livelihood income generating activities, lack of employment opportunity, lack of initiative, low income and less saving practice. Displaced people almost were resettled but still the communities are not in a position to restart their interested livelihood intervention because of the vulnerable condition and they affected by the mentally.
War and conflict have consequences on the mental health of individual and entire communities and communities in Aceh. Sri Lanka has the experience more than thirty years of armed conflict. Among the consequences of war, the impact on the mental health of the civilian population is one of the most significant. Studies of the general population show a definite increase in the incidence and prevalence of mental disorders. Women are more affected than men. Other vulnerable groups are children, the elderly and the disabled. Prevalence rates are associated with the degree of trauma, and the availability of physical and emotional support. The use of cultural and religious coping strategies is frequent in developing countries. And the counseling also takes major part to the rehabilitation of the mental health of the affected people.
This project aims to mobilize and motivate this affected vulnerable people in development activities. This programme which is fully integrated into supports the recovery and rehabilitation of the conflict affected people through the counseling. This project aims to rebuild the lives of the war affected communities for return their peaceful life.
Target Group:
The target group will be selected from the who were severelyaffected by the war such as youth, students, Nursery school teachers and disabilities during the war. Reasons for select the above target groups are youth and students are power of the society. We have to direct them to the peaceful life, it help to them to become a respectable man in the society. The disabilities also need the counseling because the affected physically by war and they need the rehabilitation through counseling for better life change.
